Internships & Careers
Students will find valuable resources on this page - Guides, Internship Postings, and Links to Job Boards. We have also provided information on how to start a nonprofit and resources for researching salaries and negotiating benefits and pay.
Begin by downloading the internship or career guide based on your priority. Read through the guide thoroughly, focusing on the resume and cover letter sections initially since you will need a solid resume to apply for opportunities. In addition to scheduling an appointment with someone at the Pomerantz Career Center and utilizing the resources linked in the guide, you are also encouraged to send a draft of your resume to Jenifer Vick at jenifer-vick@uiowa.edu for review and feedback.
Next, explore the postings of available internships. Read the job descriptions and visit the websites of organizations with openings.
Finally, access the information in the Search Links section to find internships, jobs, and volunteer opportunities throughout the country.

Many of the following internship opportunities are ongoing, meaning that the organization is willing to host an intern during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. You are encouraged to review these positions and reach out to the organizations you are interested in interning for to confirm there is a current opening when you are considering.

The NLP Internship Guide and NLP Career Guide were designed to assist you in preparing for an internship and career in the nonprofit sector. As a student enrolled in the Nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy Certificate, you have been trained to successfully complete an internship and begin your career within a wide array of professional positions.

LinkedIn Talent Solutions surveyed hiring managers about critical soft skills and the questions they ask to determine which candidates will excel. Take a peek behind the curtain to see the top-rated soft skills and if you would qualify as a high-potential candidate. If you find yourself struggling to answer any of the questions as they are outlined in this resource, conduct research on how you can improve those soft skills and contact the Pomerantz Career Center for additional insight on this important topic.

Careers
It is most efficient to email job opportunities directly to students at the time they are available. Job postings that come directly to the attention of the Nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy (NLP) co-directors and faculty are emailed out immediately to all students enrolled in the NLP Certificate. If you are not enrolled in the certificate but would like to be added to our Career Announcement distribution list, please email nlp-info@uiowa.edu to make the request.

Glassdoor is both a popular job board and a powerful employer branding tool. Consistently ranked as one of the best job posting sites worldwide, Indeed is a wise investment for employers.
